While Shakespeare came to life

With a thunder-shower passing over the city most of us who gathered for the Block Dog Easy Evening was in high spirits except for some as the club announced that it being Mahavir Jayanti it was a totally dry day. Black Dog is a sponsor for these Easy Evening's around the country in keeping with the spirit of Black Dog. But being Kolkata - the cultural capital - this was a show with a difference. Tolly Gulf Club is one of the most happening venue in Kolkata and definitely the best fit for show around Shakespeare. Inside it was pin drop silence with the stage being set by Spandan. A mature audience sat in anticipation to savor an unusual evening. The show started with the compere briefing before each act and one after another snippets from Shakespeare was enacted under the direction of none other than Ashok Viswanathan. A spellbound audience watched acts from Macbeth, Hamlet, Taming of the Shrew, Richard III and a few more. The most commendable performance was by Kishore Bhimani who enacted a special part from Richard III which brought to life the character resulting in a thumping applause by the audience. Other notable performance was by Oman and Reshmi who enacted a scene from Macbeth depicting the murder of mother and child. Welcome break was a quartet presented by Piyali Roy from one of Shakespeare’s sonnet. The evening went smoothly under the covered hall with nice air-con but a poor sound, which went off quite often.

Yaadon Mein Pancham - a tribute to R D Burman at Kolkata

With the city of Kolkata reeling under a severe heat wave, political unrest, anaconda traffic and student demonstrations nothing could be more soothing than a musical evening in memory of the legendary Panchamda as organized by Euphony and sponsored by McDowel No 1 at Kalamandir on the 12th of April, 2013. Original musicians from the RD team, some even flying down from Mumbai for the event, spread their magical trance through evergreen melodies and unforgettable pieces mesmerizing the audience. The show was anchored by none other than Ankush Chinchankar from Pune ( also known as the R D Burman - Encyclopedia) who not only enlightened the audience with many unknown facts about RD but also interacted with the musicians to bring out the much cherished Pancham Flavor. And yes this was a show with a difference - hardly a few popular numbers but with lots of hidden treasures in the form of unheard musical beats, happenings, changes, trivial pieces made the show much interesting for the Pancham fans - who queued up much before the gates opened.Musicians present was Kishore Sodha (Trumpet), Raj Sodha (Sax), Suraj Sathe ( Accordion), Rahul Chatterjee (Sitar), the Violin Brothers and Ramesh Iyer on Guitar who relentlessly guided the whole team from the middle of the stage. The other notable presence was of Homi Mullan a multi talented musician who not oly played the percussions but also displayed his skill with the xylophone and vibraphone. The only thing which betrayed the evening quite often was the unbalanced sound system which fell short of rising to the level for such a great performance. Maybe Euphony needs a closer look into this aspect. However, it was a real enjoyment for the audience who submerged in nostalgia and soaked in the melodies which came as a welcome change just before the Bengali New Year, maybe to mark a new beginning. - Team MyBand

MJ finally finds resting place

New York Times Report : GLENDALE, Calif. — More than two months after he died, and following a steady trickle of gossip over how and where he would be laid to rest, Michael Jackson was entombed Thursday night at a highly guarded mausoleum in a Los Angeles suburb.About 200 people, including Elizabeth Taylor, Lisa Marie Presley, Macaulay Culkin, Quincy Jones and many other celebrities, attended the nearly 90-minute ceremony behind the gates of the heavily guarded Forest Lawn cemetery here, several miles north of downtown Los Angeles. With closed streets, nervous guards, restricted airspace over the grounds and family and friends arriving in a multi-vehicle motorcade, the proceedings took on the feel of a presidential visit.Small clusters of fans of Mr. Jackson, one of the biggest-selling entertainers of all time, gathered at blockaded streets around the cemetery, with one group unfurling a large white banner that read, in part, “Gone too soon.”Members of the news media — 460 people from the around the world received credentials — far outnumbered the fans, and they greeted every car turning into the gated grounds with a bouquet of camera flashes and quizzical looks. Was that Ms. Taylor? Joe Jackson, the family patriarch? Corey Feldman? It was. They and other guests were shown for a short time on a video feed from the invitation-only service before it ended abruptly as Mr. Jackson’s brothers, wearing single white gloves in homage to their brother, opened the back door of a hearse. After the service, the family released a statement, saying, “Michael Jackson reached his final resting place tonight at 9:43 pm PST in The GreatMausoleum at Glendale Forest Lawn Memorial Park.”“The pallbearers were Michael’s five brothers: Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Randy Jackson,” the statement continued. “At the beginning of the ceremony, Michael’s children placed a crown on their father’s coffin to signify the final resting place of the King of Pop.”Gladys Knight sang the gospel hymn “His Eye Is on the Sparrow,” the statement said, and songwriter Clifton Davis sang “Never Can Say Goodbye,” the hit he wrote for the Jackson 5.Afterward cars streamed out, and the family planned a private reception at a restaurant in Pasadena.A memorial service attended by several thousand fans, family members and friends had already been held for Mr. Jackson, 50, who died June 25. The memorial, on July 7 at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles, took place in the arena where he had been rehearsing for a series of London concerts expected to revive his career. But the family never announced burial plans, and news station helicopters lost track of the hearse carrying his gleaming gold coffin after it left the arena.Representatives of Mr. Jackson inquired about a burial at the Neverland Ranch he lived in for several years until after his acquittal on child molesting charges in 2005, but that proposal would have entailed months of red tape, local and state officials said.A couple of weeks ago, his family announced he would be entombed at Forest Lawn Glendale, joining Walt Disney, Clark Gable, Carole Lombard, W. C. Fields and many other famed Hollywood figures. The cemetery covers 300 verdant acres and includes the statue-studded, castle-like Great Mausoleum that was chosen as Mr. Jackson’s final resting place. The cemetery prides itself on a high level of security, with guards shooing away loiterers and restricting mausoleum visits largely to people authorized by the family of the deceased.Mark Masek, who maintains cemeteryguide.com, which tracks entertainers’ graves, said that several weeks ago guards stopped him from taking pictures outside the mausoleum and forced him to delete the images.“They are not kidding,” he said, predicting that fans would have trouble finding and documenting Mr. Jackson’s crypt.“If they wanted to restrict access and keep people out, they could not have picked a better place,” he said.William Martin, a spokesman for the cemetery, declined to discuss security arrangements for Mr. Jackson’s crypt or what steps might be taken to keep out unwanted visitors.“We are very cognizant of what may happen in the near future, and we are taking the necessary steps,” he said.A judge Wednesday approved Mr. Jackson’s estate paying the costs, with the total described in court papers as “extraordinary,” but the actual amount blacked out. A Glendale police spokesman, Tom Lorenz, said police costs would be no more than $150,000 and would be paid by the family. The family bought a bloc of 12 spaces in the mausoleum as a single unit.“Mrs. Jackson and her family wish to honor her son by a funeral that seeks to offer solace to his multitude of fans and by which the family also may be comforted,” Burt Levitch, a lawyer for the singer’s mother, Katherine Jackson, wrote in a court declaration. The investigation into Mr. Jackson’s death continues. The coroner has ruled that he died from a mix of the anesthetic propofol and another sedative, injected by someone.Mr. Jackson’s personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, has told investigators he gave Mr. Jackson a mix of drugs, including propofol, to help him sleep, but it is unclear whether Dr. Murray will face criminal charges. Dr. Murray’s lawyer has said the doctor did not cause Mr. Jackson’s death. As reported in : New York Times. Picutre Courtesy : NYT

Hyderabad relishes Cheese in its original flavor

The launch of MyBand Nights was a huge success in Ratlle n Hum – Hyderabad. We wish to inform you about the event in total for the people who missed it.The band Cheese landed in Hyderabad on 16th Evening and the lead singer – Mickey came in from Bangalore where he works. The band had the first practice session at an empty floor provided by the owner of Ratlle n Hum. The session was packed by amazing punch provided by Cheese. Obviously Team Myband alongwith Cheese enjoyed every bit of it. Believe you in me when I say this , if given a choice Cheese would have continued till wee hours of the 17th early morning, but we closed the practice session at 3am.The sound check started at 4pm and went on till 6.30 pm post which Cheese retired to the hotel for a quick wash up. At 8.30pm Cheese landed in the venue which by now was 50% occupied by guests. Cheese was interviewed by local TV channels and press people invited by Team Myband and venue. The show started at 9.45pm with Mickey providing the perfect start with is extra vocal quality and punch. The show was covered with tracks from U2, Beatles, Bon Jovi, Rock On and Cheese also played a tribute to MJ with his famous track “We are the World”. Mickey added his own lyrics and sound in this track , much to the amusement of the crowd gathered. Mickey was loved by the crowd and kept the crowd engaged in between songs with his one liners and obviously stupid questions which had the crowd cheering him. Jon on the keyboards had his share of Phone calls come in during performances. One call was attended by him right in the middle of the song. No wonder the other Cheese team calls him “Mobile Jon”. Jojo – The lead guitarist was in his grumpy best as he did not get his drink on time. Sun – the Drummer kept himself happy at the background with his drink and I don’t care attitude. He too was a total Hit with the crowd. The venue was filled with corporate guys and personalities from the Hyderabad Film world. Some of the invitees took time out from their busy schedules to be a part of the Night. In total 30 songs were played by Cheese with a single break and the closing act was a famous track from Euphoria – Maeri which had the crowd sing swing along till the end. If not for the Cops Cheese would have continued for atleast one more Hour. Cheese was over whelmed by the crowd support and have promised to come back to Hyderabad very soon.Team Myband could not have asked for a better Opening Gig and promise to let you guys have more such nights come true.

Friends and family celebrate Michael Jackson’s life during emotional memorial service

Michael Jackson was an entertainment phenomenon both triumphant and troubled, a dazzling performer who transcended barriers, transformed the music world and transfixed fans and non-fans alike in every corner of the Earth. But Tuesday's memorial was not for that Michael Jackson. Instead, those closest to the legend gave us a glimpse of Michael Jackson the man.Broadcast live around the world, Jackson’s public memorial service was held at the Staples Center in downtown Los Angeles on July 7, 2009. It began with a reading by Smokey Robinson of messages of condolence from Nelson Mandela and Diana Ross before Pastor Lucious Smith spoke on behalf of the Jackson family.“We come to this space where only days ago Michael Jackson sang,” he said. “First and foremost, this man was our brother, our son, our father and our friend”.“In his very beautiful and very human heart, Michael Jackson wanted nothing more than to give love to the world”.Mariah Carey was the first artist to appear on stage accompanied by Trey Lorenz to the tear-filled remembrances by family members. Her voice shook as she launched into a rendition of I'll Be There. This was followed by a moving tribute actress by Queen Latifah who shared her memories of Jackson, saying she was there to represent the fans who “grew up loving Michael from a distance”.Lionel Richie, Jackson's collaborator on the anthem "We Are the World," sang a gospel classic, "Jesus is Love." Another gospel hymn heralded the arrival of Jackson's casket when a choir sang the lines, "Hallelujah, hallelujah, we're going to see the King." Berry Gordy, Motown founder, spoke next, offering condolences. He talked about the child prodigy he signed at age 10, and pronounced him not just the King of Pop, but "the greatest entertainer who ever lived," he also talked about the little kid who played catcher during family softball games against the Gordys, who cracked jokes and frolicked in the pool.Stevie Wonder then serenaded Jackson's coffin with the song “Never Dreamed You’d Leave In Summer” originally intended as a bitter breakup song but repurposed as a sad goodbye.“This is a moment that I wish I didn’t live to see coming. But as much as I can say that and mean it, I do know that God is good,” he said. “And I do know that as much as we may feel, and we do, that we need Michael here with us, God must have needed him far more.”Kobe Bryant and Magic Johnson also spoke, with Magic describing the event as a "celebration of Michael's life and works" rather than a funeral. He talked about the perfectionist who made him achieve higher heights as a basketball player, but also told of sitting around and eating KFC at his home. Brooke Shields talked about a friendship in which laughter was central to it all. "We had a bond, and maybe it was because we both understood what it was like to be in the spotlight from a very, very young age," Shields said, fighting back tears. "Both of us needed to be adults very early, but when we were together, we were two little kids having fun. ... M.J.'s laugh was the sweetest and purest of anyone I've known."Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson sang Jackson’s "Will You Be There" accompanied by a music video. But perhaps no one lifted up the image of Jackson more than the Rev. Al Sharpton, in rousing, church-like sermon, he looked at Jackson's children and said "Your daddy wasn't strange — what he had to deal with was strange."But the loudest roar from the 20,000 or so people inside the center came when Jackson's brother Jermaine – dressed like all the Jackson brothers in dark suits, yellow ties and a single white sequined glove – sang a version of Jackson's favorite song, "Smile," by Charlie Chaplin. Usher's heartbreaking rendition of "Gone Too Soon," which Jackson wrote as a memorial for Ryan White, one of the early public faces of AIDS, captured the pain not only of his fans and friends, but of his family, as the Jackson brothers came together and gripped a sobbing Usher in their arms afterward. The service ended with speeches by members of his family, including his brothers, Jermaine and Marlon, and his daughter Paris. The 11-year-old, speaking for the first time in public, fought back tears as she addressed millions of people around the world watching the ceremony, "Ever since I was born, Daddy has been the best father you could ever imagine. And I just wanted to say I love him so much," she told the hushed audience, before breaking down in tears. The Jackson family collectively thanked well-wishers for their support, dedicating the traditional funeral poem Perhaps You Sent a Lovely Card to Michael Jackson's fans.Speculation is still continuing over where Jackson will finally be laid to rest, with sources saying the family are now hoping to bury him at Neverland, although they have yet to receive permission from authorities.Following the memorial his coffin was expected to return to Forest Lawn, where it has been held for the last few days, while a final decision is made.We also did a small Video on our part - a tribute to MJ with song dedication By Cheese The Band. Check it here!

Aftermath of MJ’s demise

After the unexpected death of the Pop King, doubt and questions are surfaced out, one of which is that he was not the biological father of his children. Presently, his mother has been granted temporary guardianship of the three children. It has been disputed because all three of them appear to be white. The future of the children is not clear.Although the official autopsy report did not establish any foul play for the cause of the death, but leaked report of autopsy claimed that the Pop King had nothing but only drugs in the stomach. His body had plenty marks of injections. Michael is believed to have been taking a cocktail of drugs and strong narcotics like painkillers, anti-anxiety tablets, anti-depressants and muscle relaxants. The drugs were obtained in the names of his staffs and associates. Michael Jackson was probably suffering from severe mental and psychological imbalance and illness as it is expressed by his family lawyer Brian Oxman that he was horrified of being murdered and he feared someone was trying to kill him shortly before he died. Michael died of a suspected cardiac arrest last Thursday, 25th June 09 and it is alleged by his family members that he has been kept deliberately in a drugged state by people who wanted to manipulate him. As a result, Michael's family wanted a second, private autopsy of the pop superstar because of unanswered questions about how he died. The LA police already initiated investigation. The Pop superstar known for his extravagant shopping habit had an asset of approx over $550 million which includes the publishing right for his own work and Beatles song right and on the other hand more than $300 million debt.
MyBands tribute to the King of Pop

Michael Jackson the ‘King of Pop’ died of cardiac arrest on Thursday. Paramedics were unable to revive the singer after they were called to his Los Angeles home when he had stopped breathing. When they arrived, he had no pulse even after repeated attempts to revive him. He was rushed to UCLA hospital where doctors desperately tried to revive him for more than an hour, but he could not be resuscitated. An autopsy will be held in Los Angeles today He was 50 years old. There were claims today that the cardiac arrest may have been triggered by a painkiller injection. Jackson's songs were featured on a number of different movie soundtracks over the years, and as an actor he appeared in the film The Wiz. His own studio albums were among the world's best-selling records: Off The Wall (1979), Thriller (1982), Bad (1987), Dangerous (1991) and History (1995). In 1983, Jackson the performer blew away the world during the televised special “Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever” when he rocked his signature Moonwalk for the first time. Though he's had his share of problems and controversy over the years, it's sad to hear that one of the great pop-culture icons of our generation has passed on. MyBand salutes the King of Rock - may his soul rest in peace ! Check our tribute on facebook and express yourself!http://www.facebook.com/pages/MyBand/74688199315?ref=mf

Rahman conferred with Honorary Doctorate by AMU

The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) has just conferred an Honorary D.Lit degree to music mastero A R Rahman. So far, Rahman has won all the known awards for his music including Oscars. He is the 1995 recipient of the Mauritius National Award and was nominated for a Laurence Olivier Award for his first West-End production.Apart from these he is four time National Film Award winner and has been conferred the Padma Shri from the Government of India. In 2006 Rahman received an honorary award from Stanford University for contributions to global music.Apart from several state and Filmfare awards, he also received the 2008 Critics Choice Awards winner for Best Composer. Rahman is also the first Indian national to win a Golden Globe, winning for Slumdog Millionaire in the category of Best Original Score. AR rahman won two Oscars for his music scores in the film Slumdog Millionaire. While speaking on the occasion the music maestro said, “It is ironical that what the west calls the dark ages was one of the brightest spots in the history of Islam. Sadly the picture has changed today. Muslims are no longer perceived at the forefront of humanity's quest for progress and development”.The University also conferred the Honorary degree to noted Urdu writer Professor Gopichand Narang, former President of Sahitya Academy.AR Rahman was born on the 6th of January in the year 1966 in Chennai and known as Dileep Kumar. His father R K Sekhar was a known musician but died the same day when the first film he had composed hit the theatres. Rahman was only 11 years at that time. From these humble days of pain and hardship Rahman has come a long way and today stands as one of the most popular figure in the Music World. Rahman lost his faith in God in front of his father's sufferings but the word of a Sufi Pir gave him some solace and Dileep converted to Islam from Hinduism in 1989 merely years before his first Bollywood blockbuster Roja was released. He converted to Islam along with his family after his personal experience with the Sufi Pir.All along he received a strong support from his mother to pursue his dream to be a music composer. Later he was able to get a full scholarship to the Trinity College of Music at Oxford University from where he got his degree in Western Classical Music. Rahman's dream has been to bring a new contemporary perspective to Indian music in which he has been overwhelmingly successful.

Sony to provide music at Vevo

First it was Universal Music now its the turn of Sony Music to join hands with You Tube for Vevo - the upcoming destination for a new online music video and entertainment service. Both Sony Music and Universal Music will provide its music videos and other premium content at Vevo, which will be powered by YouTube - which was acquired for $1.65 billion in2006 by Google.Vevo is being built on the lines of Hulu dot com which monetizes television content online based on a subsciption model. The proposed music player for such content will be hosted on YouTube and can be embedded on other web sites. Nearly all record labels are now keen on online revenues after a decline in cd sales. The deal is an effort by Google to monteize entertainment content on You Tube as both Sny and Universal will share the advertising sales while website embedding the service will sell tracks and merchandise online. Both Sony and Universal has strong presence in the Music Industry with Kelly Clarkson, Lady Gaga, Carrie Underwood, Amy Winehouse, U2, Bruce Springsteen, Duffy, Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Eminem, AC/DC, Mariah Carey among others. This move will usher in a new ear of digital sales in the Music domain and increase the reach of such content among millions of broadband users.

Mohit Chauhan, Going Solo

Mohit Chauhan , you may remember him as the lead vocalist of Silkroute with their beautiful underwater track Dooba Dooba and their many romantic melodies from album Boondein. Silkroute comprised of Mohit Chauhan on the lead vocals and Guitar, Kem Trivedi on the keyboards, and Kenn Puri on percussion and drums. Well Silkroute reached a dead end and disbanded a while back but Mohit has taken to the Bollywood music scene and singing for film tracks. Some of his contributions to the glitzy land of super stars and blockbuster hits have been vocals in songs like Khoon Chala - Rang De Basanti , Tum Se Hi - Jab We Met, Kuch khaas" - Fashion and Masakali" - Delhi 6.Recently however these backstage endeavors haven’t been satisfying for this talented singer who has been working on his solo album for a while now though he is yet to settle on a decision on the title of his album that is due release in July and features 9 tracks written and sung by Mohit himself. When asked about his experience he says ,"I have been recording for the album for the last three months - I'll be recording a couple more and then we'll start the post production," On the film front, Chauhan's voice would be heard in Rakesh Roshan's Kites, Kabir Khan's New York and Vishal Bharadwaj's next film.

Rahul Vaidya makes it Big

Rahul Vaidya is the new evening, prime time radio jockey on Big 92.7 FM. These days Rahul seems to do it all, he’s hosted popular dance show "Aajaa Mahi Vay" with his co-host Vinit Singh, he’s released an album, he’s won singing reality show Jo Jeeta Wohi Superstar and he’s apparently hitting the gym hard because he has aspirations of a bollywood film in the near future. And why not, this 22 year-old got his virgin glimpse of TV stardom with the first season of Indian idol where he was the third finalist and since then nothing has been able to stop this multi-talented Mumbaite. His newest endeavor takes him to the ambani owned radio station big FM 92.7 where Rahul will be hosting a new show called Jakaas Pachaas a weekly show aired on 5-9 pm Sundays. The show’s programming includes showcasing last weeks 50 top hits and of course live , impromptu vocal performances by RJ **** singer Rahul-ji. When asked in an interview why did prefered to be a Jock over anchoring? He replied saying, “Now days there are no good shows on television and also I had done anchoring twice but with a co-host. But now I will anchor only if I am the only anchor. So I thought of being a Radio Jockey. I hope that people like me in this job as well.” I m sure they will , it seems like losing Indian idol was the best thing to happen to this youngling. I mean when was the last time you heard about Abhijeet getting this much attention?!!

The Indian on American idol

We’re talking about Anoop Desai , the Indain-American who featured in the top seven on America’s hit reality talent hunt American idol. Anoop will be touring through all 50 states of the USA along with the other top ten finalists and when asked he also talks about a record and soon. “I will continue making my kind of music-- pop and R&B. And plan to come out with my record soon." This 22-year-old from Carolina has got a lot of fame wing to his Indian ethnicity he has also been called a cultural icon with merchandise like t-shirts with his face on it selling like hot cakes in the US.Is he going to be the next Jay Sean to create the perfect balance of NRI and Desi sounds to soothe the Indian soul? The answer is NO. "I don't think I can do Bollywood music. I don't think my voice suits that kind of singing. My parents have always listened to Lata Mangeshkar and Mukesh. And it has influenced me too. But I'd like to come to India and sing my kind of music," he says. Though he hints at plans of a South East Asia tour. The second Indian participant to reach the finals of the show Anoop was much celebrated as opposed to lat seasons contestant Sanjaya Malakar, who faced much hype and consequent criticism owing to his young female fan base and lack of musical talent.Ameican idol is known to make a difference to the lives of their contestants and a good example at that is idol winner Kelly Clarkson who went from being a waitress to a pop diva . Anoop is definitely saddened by the loss but being a finalist itself has far reaching impacts on his future. He disagrees that being Indian was a drawback at the contest. "I think my being Indian set me apart from everybody else. They didn't expect my kind of music to come from an Indian kid. But that's what American Idol is all about. You can come from anywhere."
