The best brand of the world has bannered the poet of the world on his birthday. You can be a Bengali or a music lover or lover of any art form who has crossed the limitation of being just Bengali as a geographical inhabitant but it made you look surprised seeing this man googling even on his 148th birthday !!! Is he immortal? Is he a ‘Rishi thakur’ learned the secret of immortality with yoga ? I question as an actress of Bollywood industry comes first if you search for ‘Rabindranath Tagore’ on google today. Is it significant?Yeats knew him, Gandhi and oh Einstein too…if that draws your attention!!! 1921 – in the noble prize acceptance speech….’ And for over a century our students have been brought up in utter ignorance of the worth of their own civilization of the past. Thus we did not only lose touch of the great which lay hidden in our own inheritance, but also the great honour of being able to contribute to the civilization of Humanity, to have opportunity of giving what we have and not merely begging from others, not merely borrowing culture and living like eternal schoolboys. ‘ The nobel prize website said he is less read in his country now a days. Are you guilty…wait he said this for you ’ I do not think that it is the spirit of India to reject anything, reject any race, reject any culture.’ So he sings the Irish, English or the Scottish song as it goes ‘ Auld Lang Syne ( for old time’s sake ) –‘Should auld acquaintance be forgotAnd Never brought to mind?Should auld acquaintance be forgot,And days of auld lang syne?’ ‘ Purano sei diner katha bhulbi kire hay|O sei chokher dekha, praner katha, se ki bhola jay|’ He is the Gita ( Bhagavad ) of good music, I am sure we don’t read that holy book anymore as well. So if you think your past is worth visiting, google ‘Rabindranath Tagore – The poet of the World ‘ and learn some soulful music. If you don’t he does not miss anything though – ‘ Shudhayona , kabe kon gaanKahare koriyachhinu daan|Pather dhular parePore aache taritareJe tahare dite pare maan|Tumi ki sunecho taar banee,Hridaye niyecho tare tani’ ?Janina tomar naam,Tomarey sopilamAamar dhyaner dhankhani || Or, You can just go and start ’ Rock’ on your rented electric guitar… or if I quote Ibsen , please understand ‘ The sense that you’ve got ten times more music in you than in all the dancers put together.’
