Summit Attempt is a band, project, an idea, a dream of making original music without compromise.

The musicians are seasoned professionals, whose combined credits include playing all over India and abroad. Together, they create a unique sound that is a heady cocktail of the blues, jazz, fusion, electronica and Latin, with rock as the strong, solid foundation.

In just about one-and-a-half years of existence, the band has self-produced an album (Blue Bugyal), been reviewed by Rolling Stone (3.5 stars out of 5), written about in newspapers like Bombay Times and Telegraph and performed at venues in Kolkata and Mumbai including Blue Frog and Hard Rock Café Mumbai.

And this despite the fact that the band leader lives in Mumbai while the others live in Kolkata!

Mainak ‘Bumpy’ Nag Chowdhury: Bass.

Sayantan ‘Bumba’ Sengupta: Guitars.

Sumit, a founder guitar player for the Kolkata-based Latin-jazz band The Orient Express and now a senior editor with Rediff.com, is the driving force behind Summit Attempt. He has also played across the country with Mumbai-based Hindi rock band Prayag

Doi was also the vocalist and percussion player for Kolkata-based rock band Krosswindz and featured on Zee Bangla channel’s hit Bengali show Mirakkel.

Bumpy is one of India’s busiest bass players whose credits include touring Europe with author-turned-singer Amit Chowdhury’s band This is Not Fusion, and playing with Tanmay Bose, one of sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar’s favourite tabla players. Bumpy has also stunned many a visiting jazz musician with his virtuosity, and played with many of them across India — at jazz festivals, at pubs, at concerts, you name it.

Bumba, a Wipro employee, co-scored the theme song for director Raja Sen’s National Award-winning Bengali movie, Attiyo Swajan.
